PROJECT PROPOSAL

The interaction between the shape of light and the changing shadow could massively manipulate human behaviors. If the scale of the architecture determines the purpose of its uses, will the various scales of the shadow create different boundaries to limit people’s range of activity?

I am deeply fascinated by the passenger’s reaction to the heatwave in London. Even the chaotic crowd in Oxford Circus tended to move simultaneously into the nearest shade just to avoid the toxic ultraviolet. Imagine if the ordinary shape of shadow becomes more flexible and changeable depending on the light sources. Perhaps the human tide will follow the shade? Or will they not? Through the investigation of my fellows, it is worthy to point out the character of a person also determine one’s reactivity to the sunshine. The observation suggests that people from the subtropical country have a natural resistivity to the heat, therefore they keep walking directly under the sun. Meanwhile, some people are allergic to the ultraviolet, no matter the intensity of the sunshine, as long as they are outside, sunglass, sun cream, and an umbrella become necessities.

This project is so intriguing to me because there are countless variables, as an insoluble equation. Major trends cooperating with the outliers to form a collage picture of lines and dots. When viewing this phenomenon from a more comprehensive aspect, people could become an extended splash of the architecture and its shadows.

I intend to stick with the cardboard paper as the main material of the model, supporting with thread to create portable layers to investigate its response to numerous angles of the light sources. To enhance the texture of nature, I might collect more materials from the surrounding like leaves, newspapers, and rocks, etc. Several models represent the timeline of two extreme seasons in London, summer with the longer daytime and toxic heatwave and winter with the long night time and icy wind. Photography and video will be introduced as the main documentary method for this project, as most of my theories are in motion, the changing motion of shadows.

The Hysterical Private Selling Exhibition inspired me to create a similar device that guides the audience into the architecture and blend into it, become part of the design. The bold combinations of colors drew people’s attentions toward not only the buildings but also the floor and the ceiling. The whole space becomes an exhibition itself.

My outcome will be two models, each represents the different climate situations in the summer and winter. I will also present my work in different layers for visual enhancement. Try to have an outline of the model and start amending the first model. The project would probably finish before the last week, therefore, will have a few days for final modification.

These models from the Photographer’s gallery displayed a specific way to illustrate one’s complexity——layering. Divide the whole model into slices and overlapped them by malposition to give a better understanding of structure.
To enhance the visuality, the designer also introduced the color gradient. Motional change of the color of each layer further emphasis the interaction with the audiences when watching the model form different aspects.

looking from the hole, it represents a eye of the magnifying glass, every things behind the scene is extended and magnified. This is based on the minimal human size.

As the viewing point changed, the unpredictable motions present different imagery. The complexity of the overlapped models divide the limited space into pieces and extend its boundary.

Angular pieces situated in different angles to form a comprehensive imagery. Even with such ordinary shapes, the distinctive arrangement extended the fixed boundary and further overlapped the lines.

The ingenious uses of material also brings out the character of each object like glass, wood and steel. Working around with the scale of objects could possibly enhance the stability and completeness.

Light passing through the door crack created an indefinite shadow as the light sources moves. The proximity between bright and dark could also be alternate.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
